A couple of us are planning a trip to Rjukan, Norway for a week of ice climbing. We are looking at going either mid or end of February 2010.
Rjukan is almost perfectly positioned for ice climbing. The town is located at the botton of a deep valley over shadowed by the big peak of Gaustatoppen. The valley runs east-west which means that, during the winter, most of the waterfalls receive little or no sun.
There are more than 150 waterfalls to choose from with a wide range of grades and almost all of have easy access even in deep snow.
We would be looking to book self catering style apartments/cabins which sleep circa 5 people. On this basis, the outline costs of the trip for the week are as follows:
Accommodation: £130 pp
Flights (Ryanair - Stanstead) £15 pp
Car Rental (5 sharing) £80 pp
Total £225 pp
There would obviously be additional costs for fuel and food/drink, etc and bear in mind Norway isn't the cheapest place on the planet - especially if you plan on getting plastered every night!
If you would be interested in coming on this trip, please would you let me know as soon as possible as I would like to book the accommodation fairly soon. In advance you would be required to pay a non refundable deposit with the balance due nearer the time.
I will take the guide book to the pub over the next few weeks if you would like to have a look at it and get some inspiration or visit www.visitrjukan.com.
Regards
